Job Summary:
Respiratory therapists are responsible for helping patients with breathing disorders, such as asthma or emphysema, by providing treatments and therapies. They work closely with physicians and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement treatment plans for patients. Respiratory therapists also educate patients on how to properly use respiratory equipment and provide guidance on lifestyle changes to improve their breathing.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Conducting diagnostic tests to evaluate patients' lung function
- Administering medications and treatments, such as oxygen therapy and breathing exercises
- Monitoring patients' progress and adjusting treatment plans as needed
- Educating patients on how to properly use respiratory equipment, such as inhalers and nebulizers
- Collaborating with physicians and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement treatment plans
- Providing emotional support to patients and their families
- Documenting patient progress and treatment plans
Qualifications and Skills:
- Associate’s degree in respiratory therapy
- BLS/ACLS Needed
- State licensure as a respiratory therapist
- Certification from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC)
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Attention to detail and critical thinking skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Compassion and empathy for patients
